Among the 2024 graduates of NBCK, we are fortunate to witness such a dream chaser - Han Yufan, who, with his unremitting efforts and firm belief, finally received an offer from Imperial College London for the engineering major. This honor is not only a recognition of his academic ability, but also the best response to his persistence and expectations on the road to pursuing his dreams. "At first I wanted to study social sciences and thought about applying to LSE. From Hangzhou to Shanghai, I knew I was going to study abroad, but I didn't have a specific direction." When it comes to the time planning for university applications, Fan Fan's starting point was the same as many applicants for studying abroad. He had a period of confusion. Due to his desire to explore the deep logic behind social phenomena and human behavior, Fan Fan's eyes were indeed attracted to the field of social sciences at the beginning. He was full of good feelings about being able to be in LSE (London School of Economics and Political Science), a university specializing in liberal arts in the UK G5. However, from Hangzhou to Shanghai International School, with the requirements for professional admission, on the increasingly competitive road to studying in the UK and Hong Kong, China, after learning about the small and beautiful NBCK, he resolutely gave up the offer of studying at Lingke and joined NBCK, starting his own road to studying for the UK G5 practical exam. Finally, it was after he came to NBCK that he realized through communication with the teachers in the Promotion Office that although he had a strong interest in social sciences, considering the course combination and learning progress at the time, it would be more appropriate to regard social sciences as a related research hobby rather than a major, rather than applying for and systematically studying social sciences as a major.
Once the old major direction is changed, the number of target schools and majors will become redundant. In this process, Fan began to try various possibilities by combining various schools and majors. From participating in various club activities, and learning about the sharing of seniors in different fields, he tried to find his own passion and direction.
"If the first choice of Shanghai was due to the pursuit of the title of 'Shanghai's first-tier national high school', then the choice of NBCK was because my pursuit direction became 'loyal to my own growth', focusing on my G5 goal and every transformation and growth in myself."
"In fact, one of the reasons why I finally decided on the engineering major at Imperial College was because of my advantage in oral English interviews. However, due to equipment and various reasons, the interview for the 2024 Fall major admission was cancelled."
When talking about the interview cancellation email received from my dream school at the end of last year, Fan still feels a little regretful.
"This means that my application chips for Imperial College, in addition to the A-level results I have already obtained, are only the essays and the teacher's recommendation letter."

The moment I received the offer, years of hard work and planning finally paid off. Those countless nights of staying up late to do exercises, and the intense discussions with the promotion counselor in the office about the future direction, all the hard work and sweat finally earned recognition from Imperial College London, the 7th-ranked institution in the QS World University Rankings. This achievement is not only a recognition of his personal ability, but also the best reward for his persistence and hard work.
